A police constable has been suspended after a suspected thief allegedly managed to flee from the custody at Barisal kotwali police station.
Assistant Commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Asaduzzaman confirmed this on Friday afternoon and said police were currently attempting to rearrest the fugitive. Abu Taher, sub-inspector of the Barisal kotwali police station, said Abdur Rashid and Sohel Rana, two suspected members of a motorbike stealing gang, had been arrested from Rupatali on Wednesday.
Rashid had already made a confessional statement admitting his crime and Sohel was being interrogated further. Sources said Sohel was held in the reception room due to overcrowding at the police station and was able to escape from there due to the lax security measures.
