Students demonstrate blocking roads

Students of Home Economics College yesetdray staged demonstrations on Azimpur Road, disrupting vehicular movement for three hours to press home their various demands, including the one for declaring the college as a Dhaka University institution, reports UNB.
A group of students took to the streets in front of their college at Azimpur in the capital around 12pm and staged demonstrations after blocking the road, assistant commissioner (Lalbagh zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Salahuddin told the news agency.
Vehicular movement on the road from Nilkhet to Azimpur came to a complete halt due to the blockade programme.
Later, the traffic on the road returned to normalcy around 3pm after police intervention, said AC Salahuddin.
Their other demands include increasing transport and library facilities for them, sources at the college said.
Students of the college boycotted their examinations and classes to press home their demands.
Sharmin Sultana Sumi, a masters student of the college and the convener of the movement, told reporters that they would continue their movement until their demands are met. "We'll block the road again on Monday,” she added.
