Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith yesterday called upon financial institutes to come forward for the welfare of meritorious students, reports BSS.
"The present government has brought the primary level education of the country under stipend system. It is also working to bring the secondary education under the system. I hope the meritorious students using this facility will become successful in life and will make valuable contribution in building the country and the society," Muhith said.
The finance minister said these while distributing scholarships from Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd (DBBL) among the students at a ceremony in Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
Presided over by chairman of DBBL board of directors Sayem Ahmed, the function was attended by many top officials of the bank and huge numbers of students.
Muhith at the programme expressed his hopes that country's other corporate bodies will follow the footsteps of DBBL in observing different activities like providing scholarship among students.
