Why this attempt to hide a Genocide?

To hide their vicious barbarity in Bangladesh in 1971, Pakistan's new leaders are also trying to distort history by hiring foreign intellectuals with large cash. They even hired an Indian intellectual from the family of Netaji Subhash Bose, who wrote a book full of distortion and Pakistani propaganda

Why this attempt to hide a Genocide?

In her speech in the parliament on14th February Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared that 25th March would be marked as the Genocide Day. Without any government declaration for 46 years people have been observing this day as the Genocide Day because in 1971 the Pakistani invaders started killing people indiscriminately which culminated in the killing of 30 lakhs people. Among the victims were the country's top intellectuals and academics. More than 3 lakh women were raped and killed. This day should have been declared a Genocide Day long ago. But the long rule of mosque and military did not give importance to this day and tried to erase the great tragedy from the memory of people.

But the nation did not forget those martyrs who had given their lives for the country and those innocent men, women and children who were the victims of Pakistani army's brutality. Naturally people are demanding now that this day, 25th March should be officially declared as the day of genocide. Sheikh Hasina promptly responded to this demand and assured her countrymen that she will take steps to fulfil their expectation.
Bangladesh is a country of natural disasters. In the past the country had also been plundered by pirates and thugs of  different nationalities including Dutch, Portuguese and some local mafias. During the reign of Nawab Aliwardi the 'bargis' were the greatest threat to the life and property of the people of Subhe-Bangla. They looted their food grains, burnt their households and stole young girls and their women folk for selling abroad. Nawab Aliwardi suppressed them but they devastated a vast area of Subhe-Bangla. But all these natural disasters and manmade calamities could not be compared with the devastation made by Pakistani invaders in the 70s of the last century.
I have already mentioned that the estimated death were 30 lakhs and the number of female victims was more than 3 lakhs. Almost half a century have passed since this crime was perpetrated by Pakistani rulers but they are still not prepared to acknowledge their crimes against humanity and apologize to the people of Bangladesh. On the contrary they are trying to bluff the people of the world by a propaganda that they did not commit any big crime in the-then East Pakistan and if there were any incidents, Awami League and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were responsible for it. In reality Awami League and its leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were leading a peaceful movement for independence but they were brutally suppressed. In response the whole of Bangladesh revolted and joined a war of resistance.
In the recent past many brutalities and crime against humanity have been recorded in the history. During the Second World War, the occupation army of Japan tortured the people of occupied Burma and Singapore. After the war they apologized to the people of those countries, even offered compensation to the victim families. At the end of the Second World War America dropped atomic mob on Nagasaki and Hiroshima of Japan unnecessarily and committed the greatest crime against humanity in the last century. America is now the sole super power in the world. So, its rulers think that there is no need for them to apologize to Japan for their barbarity. But America did not deny this crime against humanity and did not put the blame on others. The ex-president Barrack Obama, went to Hiroshima last year and openly wept for what they have done long, long ago to the Japanese. He expressed his sorrow but could not apologize to the people of Japan, perhaps, under the pressure of the White establishment.
But we see a different attitude and shameless utterances from Pakistani rulers-past and present alike. They not only deny the genocide in East Pakistan but put the blame on the people of Bangladesh and its the-then leaders. They are operating a huge propaganda machine to deny the genocide of 71 in Bangladesh, and distorted the history of the war of Independence in Bangladesh by propagating that all the barbarity were committed by the freedom fighters and their leaders in the country. They know this is a blatant lie. But like Goebbels of Nazi Germany they are repeating the same lies with the hope that they can befool the people of their own country and the people of the world.
Recently Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina raised the question from where the Pakistani establishment has got the encouragement to propagate downright falsehood about their genocide in Bangladesh? The answer is very simple. Pakistani rulers, civil or military, they follow the propaganda of Hitler's Nazi Germany. Nazi leader Goebbels said, "Tell a lie for a hundred times and it would become true" and the Pakistani leader's past and present believe in this theory. Moreover they get encouragement from a section of their intellectual stooges in Bangladesh who are still active and corroborating lies of the Pakistani rulers. Just after the independence of Bangladesh, an intellectual of the-then East Pakistan, Dr. G. W. Chowdhury (Golam Wahed Chowdhury) who was also an advisor to President Yahya wrote a book titled "The Last days of United Pakistan".
In this book he blamed Awami League of East Pakistan and its leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the break-up of Pakistan and distorted the whole history of the war of Independence and maligned its leaders. The book was circulated worldwide. Sheikh Mujib, the-then Prime minister of Bangladesh declared that a book will be written in English to expose Dr. Chowdhury's falsehood and to tell the truth about the genocide of Pakistan with facts and figures. Dr. Kamal Hossain, was then a minister in the Mujib government. He took the responsibility of writing this book and took leave from his ministerial duty and went to Oxford to finish it. Kamal Hossain, did not even come back to Dhaka to take oath again as a minister under Bangabandhu when he reconstructed his government as BAKSAL government. The excuse was that he was busy unfolding the truth about our war of independence.
Bangabandhu was murdered. Dr. Kamal Hossain remained in Oxford for a long time and did not get around writing this book. He did not explain why he never confronted Dr. G. W. Chowdhury's lies and his distortion of history. After G. W. Chowdhury another Bangladeshi journalist Serajur Rahman, who was associated with BBC, wrote a letter to The Guardian and raised question about the number of victims of the genocide of 1971. Bangladesh High Commission in London, protested his assertion, but he did not stop there. He attacked Bangabandhu in his memoir (My Greetings to Everybody) in Bangla and tried to assassin the character of a great leader. This journalist is now dead but his writing was quoted in Pakistan widely.
To deny the genocide in Bangladesh in the 1971, the Pakistani rulers recently got more encouragement from the utterances of Begum Khaleda Zia, the leader of BNP. She also raised question about the barbarity of the genocide by Pakistan and about the number of the victims. Some observers say, Begum Zia could not differentiate between her opposition to a party and opposition to a country. By supporting Pakistani claim overtly or covertly she has shown her lack of patriotism. In any western democratic country this could be treated as an act against the state and she could have been put to trial. Fortunately in Bangladesh she has escaped this trial.
To hide their vicious barbarity in Bangladesh in 1971, Pakistan's new leaders are also trying to distort history by hiring foreign intellectuals with large cash. They even hired an Indian intellectual from the family of Netaji Subhash Bose, who wrote a book full of distortion and Pakistani propaganda. Very recently, a new book was published in Pakistan by a Pakistani writer with these lies and distortions which was launched in the country with huge pomp. We cannot reach these foreign writers to punish them for these literary crimes against a nation. But we can, of course find out the Quislings among us who are hiding under the mask of neutral intellectuals and are helping the enemies of the country. They should be brought to trial. Their crime is no less than the crimes of the war criminals of 1971.
25th March should be officially declared as the Genocide Day and observed throughout the world as we observe the language martyr's day on 21st February all over the world. When people of the world would know the truth about genocide in Bangladesh, they will condemn not only the Pakistani rulers but all the perpetrators of the genocide in different parts of the world. That will awaken and unite people worldwide and help the humanity to fight all sorts of tyranny.
