The Government to Government (G2G) Plus agreement between Bangladesh and Malaysia came into effect as the first flight carrying 98 Bangladesh workers left Dhaka for Kuala Lumpur yesterday night. With the G2G plus agreement signed in February 18 last year, and its implementation, the Malaysian labour market also re-opened for Bangladesh after eight years. The workers left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-86 at 9:50pm. Two government officials are accompanying the workers to oversee their migration process. Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare Begum Shamsun Nahar saw the workers off at the airport and greeted them with flower sticks. Senior officials including Director General of BMET Selim Reza, president of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) Benjir Ahmed and secretary general Ruhul Amin Swapan were also present on the occasion. Talking to reporters, Shamsun Nahar said it is a matter of great content that the G2G Plus agreement is being implemented. “There is no obstacle anymore. The flow to send workers to Malaysia will continue,” she added. The Baira president said that with the sending of the first flight carrying workers to Malaysia, the G2G Plus agreement has been successful. He expressed his gratitude to all concerned particularly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her initiative and the minister
for his assistance in this regard. The Baira secretary general said the workers are being sent under G2G Plus agreement to make the markst sustainable.
He said all recruiting agencies would be involved with the process to send huge number of workers in different sectors including service, plantation and manufacturing. “Another 100 workers will fly for Kuala Lumpur on Marich 15 and the process will continue,” he added.
