Fast bowler Mohammad Shahid will require at least five-month times to return to the competitive cricket after his knee operation.
With low intensity he starts his exercise just after his operation. Every week the intensity of his exercise will be increased gradually.
The BCB medical team, suggested by David Young, will then give him to do some non-weight bearing activities along with range motion exercise as initial steps so that it could make his boon workable.
The right-arm pacer has been out of action ever since he suffered an ACL tear injury on his knee in late November last year while fielding for his side, Dhaka Dynamites, against Comilla Victorians in BPL-4.
In this regard, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said that they kept him under observation for a few weeks but the expected progress of his injury was not being happened through his initial rehabilitation process and so the board decided to send him to Australia to undergo operation by sports surgeon David Young.
“Shahid had Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury on his knee. It was grade-3 strain. We had decided to send him Australia after not getting the expected improvement of his injury within the next one month,” said Debashis Chowdhury.
“Shahid came back home from Australia last week. Already started his exercise with low intensity after his operation. The intensity of his exercise will increase gradually every week. We’ll give him some non-weight bearing activities along with range motion exercise as initial steps so he could make his boon workable,” Chowdhury told The Independent.
“At least four weeks will be needed for him to back in
this stage. If he could unfold his knee, we will then
bring him weight-bearing activities. Along with that, he will do cycling. After three months, he will do gym exercise and then skill training. He has to go through this process and come out for the competitive games after five months,” he added.
It is learnt from the physician that pacemen Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shahadat Hossain Rajib along with some ‘A’ team and age group team’s players from Bangladesh earlier had done such type of operation.
When asked if he could return to cricket within the next six months, the chief physician said, “If there have no setback in his rehabilitation and if we could follow the protocol of the rehab in right way, we could then be hopeful he will be come back within the next five months.
He also said that at least five months will be needed for a fast bowler to come back in the competitive games but if he would be a batsman, the time range would then be three-to-four months.
