8th Biochemistry Olympiad at DU today
Dhaka University (DU) Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department will stage 8th Biochemistry Olympiad today.

Training on intellectual property rights held at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A daylong training on ‘Intellectual Property Rights, Patent Licensing, Designing, Trademark, Copyrights and Business Entrepreneurship’ was held at Shilpacharya Jainul Abedin Auditorium of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Thursday.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar was the chief guest and Pro-VC Prof Dr Md Jasimuddin Khan as special guest with Prof Dr Lutful Hasan in chair. Experts and researchers underscored the necessity of creation of employment for the capable human resources as a challenge in the present situation. They also expressed the necessity of taking proper steps to conserve the intellectual property rights to encourage the inventors, researchers and developers. In the keynote presentation Vinod Morar of University of Twente and Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands, said that government may not generate employment alone but through entrepreneurship. In another keynote presentation Prof Dr Harvindor Singh Chawla said that being a leader is essential to be an entrepreneur while intellectual property is an element to be a leader.
Seminar on academic supply chain management
A research seminar on ‘Academic Supply Chain Management: An Integrated Tertiary Educational Supply Chain Management (ITESCM) Model’ organised by BRAC Business School (BBS) was held at the BRAC University (BRACU) auditorium yesterday.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, BRACU Vice Chancellor Prof Syed Saad Andaleeb pointed out that research papers from Bangladesh accounted for only 0.2 per cent of that in the world and only 0.1 percent of it was downloaded.
Prof Saad Andaleeb reiterated for all to put emphasis on faculty, students, administration, programmes and resources for BRACU to shift from South Asian rankings and focus on climbing up that of universities in the world. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr Md Mamun Habib, Associate Professor of BBS and Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Supply Chain Management (IJSCM) which is SCOPUS Indexed. The research seminar is a precursor to the 1st International Conference on Business and Management (ICBM 2017), scheduled to be organised by BBS at BRACU on September 21-22 in Dhaka.
Seminar on property rights and economic outcomes
East West University (EWU) and Bangladesh Economist Association jointly organised a seminar on ‘Contract Theory, Property Rights and Economic Outcomes’ on Wednesday at East West University (EWU), Aftabnagar, Dhaka.
In the seminar Keynote speaker Dr Rezwan Haque, Associate, Cornerstone Research, Boston, USA shared his work experience with Professor Oliver Hart and Professor Bengt Holmstrom, the 2016 Nobel Prize winners in economics for their contributions to contract theory.
In the seminar Md Nojibur Rahman, chairman, National Board of Revenue (NBR), was the chief guest. Prof MM Shahidul Hassan, Vice-Chancellor, EWU, was the special guest. Dr Jamaluddin Ahmed, FCA, General Secretary, Bangladesh Economic Association and Dr. Nazneen Ahmed, Senior Research Fellow, BIDS were two distinguished discussants on the seminar. Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and Former Governor Bangladesh Bank chaired the programme.
