Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized an abandoned luxury car with no legal ownership and false documents at Golapbagh in the capital on Thursday. Talking to The Independent yesterday, RAB-3 Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Tuhin Md Masud confirmed the matter. “We are investigating whether the luxury vehicle had been used for illegal activities”, he added. The vehicle was seized from the parking lot of House 23/B in the area on Thursday.
Abul Hossain, the owner of the building, said a businessman Ziaul Haque left the vehicle in my parking lot around one month ago after he failed to pay my due money, he said, adding that Ziaul had not given him any documents for the vehicle.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority said the registration number of the vehicle actually belonged to a Toyota owned by one Tanvir Rahman living in Uttara.
RAB-3 officials said they suspected the vehicle might have been imported through evading taxes and used for smuggling and drug peddling. “We are working on it to know more details”, said Lt Col Tuhin.
