Zainul Abedin, a Urdu speaking senior journalist and one of the 1952 Bengali Language Movement veterans, was buried at Intellectual Martyrs graveyard at Mirpur in the capital yesterday afternoon, reports BSS. The octogenarian journalist, also a famous Bengali and Urdu movie script writer, was laid to eternal at this special graveyard as mark of recognition of his contribution to the language and other progressive movement in the country.
He was buried around 3.30pm following his second namaj-e-janaz at the Baitul Mukarram national mosque held after the Jumma prayers.
Earlier, his first Namaj-e-janaza was held on the National Press Club premises at 9am. Zainul Abedin, 81, breathed his last at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday night.
Senior journalists including National Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, former President Khondoker Monirul Alam, Press Club Senior Vice President Saiful Alam, participated in the janaza.
