Graft deprives people of dev benefits: Nahid
“No admission trade in schools in the capital this year due to ACC steps”
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the benefit of development will not reach the doorsteps of the countrys people unless corruption is prevented. The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) continues its fight against corruption...we have all-out support to its all activities, he said while addressing a human chain programme in the capital yesterday. Nahid said there is no admission trade in the capitals schools this year due to the precautionary steps taken the ACC.
Wed taken steps in the past to make the school admission process transparent but didnt get any expected result. However, this years admission process was more, he added.
The national anti-corruption agency arranged human chains across the country, aiming to raise a united voice against corruption. Around 2.5 lakh students of the countrys 22,000 educational intuitions participated in programme to create a social movement against graft across the country.
The human chain, formed in the capital from 10 am to 11 am, stretched from Uttara to the National Press Club via Farmgate, Shahbagh and Bijoynagar, ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the news agency.
ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmood, its commissioners Dr Nasir Uddin Ahmed and AFM Aminul Islam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Salahuddin, ACC senior officials, students, teachers, government officials, public representatives, and media and civil society members also took part in the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Iqbal Mahmood said corruption is not a problem for a single country, but for the whole world and peoples mindset should be changed to address the problem.
The changing of a grown up mans mentality is not an easy task, he said, adding that it is comparatively easy to change the mindset of children and that is why the Commission along with new generation took to the street to create a resistance against graft.
Human chains were formed in all districts where ACC officials, students, teachers, government officials, public representatives, media and civil society members took part.
