Egypt send Bangladesh packing

Bangladesh suffered a humiliating 1-5 defeat at the hands of Egypt in their fourth match of the World Hockey League Round 2 yesterday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium in the capital.

Bangladesh, who began their campaign with 0-3 defeat to Malaysia, it was consecutive second defeat of the hosts when they went down to Oman by 2-3 in their previous encounter and they had only one win out of four outings against Fiji by 5-1.
After the defeat the dream of Bangladesh team to play in the semifinal were destroyed and will have to fight for the fifth place against Sri Lanka, if they will fail to win the match then the hosts will play for the seventh place out of eight teams.
On the other hands by virtue of this win, Egypt moved into the semifinal.  
Bangladesh team were in contention up to 20 minutes of the game when they were trying to remain in contention with making the tally 1-2 coming from 0-2 down  but the Egyptian defense was rock steady under the command of Amr Elhady and goalkeeper Noureldin Wael who denied some earlier efforts.
Egypt went ahead inside four minutes, capping a spell of pressure by making their first penalty corner count a slip move caught out the hosts defense (1-0) and Amr Sayed doubled the margin with good finishing after a combination with Hossain Ghabran on 17th minute (2-0).
Two minutes latter Bangladesh hinted to bounce back with reducing one goal when with a tremendous effort from Mainul and Sarwar.
Sarwar, sprinted with the ball and dribbled past one of his markers before released for Mainul who received the ball in an open space before make a well finish (1-2).
The Egyptian increased the margin to 3-1 on 29th minute with Ahmed Gamal and scored late goals to sealed victory by 5-1 when Amr Sayed scored his second on 49th minute and Hassan Mohamed closed the sheet on 55th minute.
Earlier, in the day’s other matches Malaysia defeated Sri Lnaka by 5-2, China crushed Finji by 17-0 and Oman had a hard fought 4-3 victory over Ghana and all three teams confirmed their semifinal berth.
