Bangladesh Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim achieved a rare feat what no other batsmen from his country as of now could think about. The diminutive man who has recently given up wicket-keeping job following a huge criticism became the first batsman from the country to average 100 plus in batting in phase of the career.

His last five innings read 159 and 13 not out against New Zealand, 127 and 23 against India and 85 in the first innings of Galle Test against Sri Lanka as he scored 407 runs and thereby averages 101.75. To his credit all those runs he scored outside from the home.
His golden run of form however has been reflected on his career average also as he touched 35 for the first time in his career after playing 53 Test matches.
Mushfiqur has long been considered as the No.1 Test batsman of the country but unfortunately he couldn’t be that consistent in his career. His multiple tasks were blamed for his inconsistency as he had to deal with wicket-keeping and captaincy job at the same time. His batting down the order was another reason that he could score big runs more often despite having sheer capability of playing long innings.
Following the criticism, the team management however requested him to leave the wicket-keeping job and promote him to the No.4 in the batting order in this series. After his 85 runs knock at Galle, the tactics paid off well so far.
Bangladesh tasted a middle order collapse, losing four wickets for 50 runs after which Mushfiqur Rahim help the side avert the follow-on. He got an apt support from Mehedi Hasan Miraj with whom he shared a 106-run partnership that aided Bangladesh to amass 312 before being all out.
Mushfiqur’s 85 off 161 was laced with eight fours and one six, a knock that was pivotal in keeping Bangladesh alive in the game still.
