An Ansar member was killed and a UNO injured in an attack by 'drug traders' during an anti-narcotic drive along the border at Badarpur village in Phulgazi upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Nousher Ali, 45. Ukkya Sing, assistant superintendent (circle) of Feni Police, said a team of police, led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sohel Rana, conducted the drive at Khanabari border point around 8:30 pm.
During the drive, some Indian drug peddlers, swooped on them and hit Sohel Rana and Nousher with sharp weapons, leaving Nousher killed on the spot and the UNO injured, he said. At one stage, police fired shots to disperse them. The UNO was admitted to Sadar Hospital. The drug peddlers also abducted an unidentified Bangladeshi national and took away Nousher's body to Indian side, said the ASP.
Meanwhile, a flag meeting was held between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) around 1:30am over the incident where the BSF admitted that the abducted man was in their custody. At a later BGB-BSF flag meeting held yesterday afternoon, the BSF said the abducted person named Suman will be handed over to police for illegal trespassing and will be produced before court. The BSF also handed over the body of deceased Ansar member Nousher.
