Bangladesh leads Asia-Pacific in women’s IT skills dev

Says Bangladesh ambassador to Thailand

Bangladesh is taking a clear lead in Asia and the Pacific region in equipping women with IT skills for the future world of work under the Digital Bangladesh program, said Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Saida Muna Tasneem, reports UNB.
She made the remark while addressing the Asia Pacific Regional Commemoration of the International Women's day 2017 at UNESCAP in Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon.
Ambassador Tasneem was invited by UNESCAP and UNWOMEN to chair the Asia Pacific commemorative interactive high-level dialogue on "Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030, according to a message received in Dhaka from Bangkok.
Other speakers and panellists at the regional interactive dialogue were UNESCAP Executive Secretary Dr Shamshad Akhter, UNWOMEN Regional Director for Asia Pacific Miwa Kato, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand Donica Pottie, ILO Regional Senior Specialist for gender equality Joni Simpson, UN Women Regional Advisor for Economic Empowerment Francois Montiene, Microsoft Thailand's Director SIRIPORN Pajarawath and CEO of WEDU Mario Ferro.
Speakers at the panel praised Bangladesh, its women, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her pioneering leadership in empowering women economically and politically upping Bangladesh's position at the World Economic Forum Global Gender Gap Report each year.
Bangladesh was also praised for having one of the six women head of Government in the Asia-Pacific region.
The panel also agreed that women Heads of State/Governments from the public sector and women the CEOs from corporate and private sector can mentor and inspire as Role Models of other women in the political and economic empowerment pipeline.
The dialogue of International Women's day was attended by more than 200 diplomats and members of International Organizations and the civil society.
