Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the government is working for improvement of quality education at the universities, reports BSS.
The process of framing a law for constituting Higher Education Commission is now at final stage for strengthening the University Grants Commission while the Accreditation Council Law has been passed in the parliament for enhancement of quality education, the minister said addressing as chief guest at the 4th convocation of World University of Bangladesh (WUB) held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital yesterday.
The present government will extend its all out cooperation to the universities which would run their institutions with sincerity, he said, adding, "We want that private universities would achieve the successes."
Nahid said the government will take legal action against the private universities which have failed to fulfill the requisites.
If they cannot run the university properly, they would not be allowed to enroll new students.
"Some of the private universities are yet to fulfill the conditions as per the Act and they have to face legal action after the scheduled timeframe," he added.
Speaking on the occasion Nahid said eradication poverty is still a big challenge for us. There is no alternative to eradicate poverty without education.
Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan, WUB Vice Chancellor Prof Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, Acting Chairman of University Trustee Board Professor Mushfique M Chowdhury, among others, addressed the convocation.
