Trashing BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s allegation of ‘government conspiracy to annihilate BNP’, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday said the government wants all political parties to do politics in a democratic environment, reports UNB.
“We don’t know those trying to split BNP. We want all parities to do politics in a democratic environment,” he told reporters after a meeting of Awami League associate bodies at AL President’s Dhanmondi political office.

His remarks came three days after Khaleda Zia at an Eid-greeting exchange programme on Saturday alleged that a vested quarter has long been conspiring to divide BNP.
They’re (govt) relentlessly trying to annihilate BNP because of its huge popularity,” Khaleda Zia claimed alleging further that the government through its various agencies is making reports in different media against BNP to split it.
Replying to a question over Khaleda’s allegation, Syed Ashraf, also Awami League general secretary, said, “I’ve no information to give you about it.”
Asked what the role he would play in establishing politics-free administration, Ashraf said, “The government will do its own work while the party its own—I do believe in this policy.”
“When I take oath as a minister then I’m not a party activist…I’m then a minister of the government. When I do party work, I do it for the party. I don’t see any conflict between the two. I hope the administration will become more dynamic in the future.”
