JMB man gets life term in C’nawabganj arms case

A special court here yesterday sentenced a member of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to life term imprisonment for possessing illegal arms.
The lifer is Selim alias Harun Mistri, 33, son of Durul Huda, a resident of Joharpur Bakrir Char in Sadar upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Selim along with one pistol, two magazines and nine bullets from his village on July 7, 2009.
According to Selim’s information, the elite force members recovered six one shutter guns and 10 bullets from his house the next day.
Later, sub-inspector Anwar Hossain of Rab-5 filed a case against Selim with Sadar Model Police Station.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the Special Court-2 Ziaur Rahman handed down the verdict.
UP chairman held in Jessore
Jessore: Police arrested a union parishad chairman along with 100 pieces of Yaba tablets from Trimohoni Bazar in Keshabpur upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
Tipped off, police conducted a drive in the area around 10pm and arrested Anisur Rahman, chairman of Trimohoni union parishad, along with the Yaba tablets, said Imaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Jessore police. A case was filed.
Two brothers held with arms

Police arrested two siblings along with two firearms and four bullets from Siraj Singha village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the village and arrested Sohan, 22, and Sohag, 24, sons of Yunus Ali, around 11.00 am, said Mokhlesur Rahman, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection.
Ferry services resume
Manikganj: Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route in the Padma River resumed after three and half hours of disruption due to thick fog, reports UNB.
Mohiuddin Russell, manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) at Aricha, said they kept the ferry services on the route suspended from 5am to 8:30am due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.
