Capacity building of the local government institutions is crucial for adopting time-befitting development plans to implement those efficiently in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs), reports BSS.
The opinion came at the quarterly coordination meeting of the Union Parishad Governance Project (UPGP) at district level organised by the Rangpur district administration at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in Rangpur yesterday.
The Local Government Division extended cooperation in arranging the event with financial support of European Union (EU), Danida, United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and UNDP.
Chairmen and Secretaries of all 76 union parishads, Upazila Chairmen and Upazila Nirbahi Officers form all eight upazilas, representatives of different NGOs and journalists participated in the meeting.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman presided over the meeting moderated by Deputy Director (Local Government) for Rangpur Sultana Pervin.
In the beginning, Sultana Pervin narrated about the activities conducted under the UPZP and successes achieved in all 76 unions in the district.
"The present government has been implementing the UPZP to further strengthen the local government institutions for institutionalising democracy and ensuring accountability at the grassroots levels," she said.
