The High Court yesterday summoned the Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa and chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to appear before it on March 19 in connection with the death of a man falling into an open manhole, reports UNB.
An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the sue moto order after noticing a report titled ‘Man dies falling into city open manhole’ published in a vernacular daily today.
It asked them to explain their role in the death of the man. The HC also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why action should not be taken against those responsible for the death and why compensation should not be paid to the family members of the deceased.
LGRD secretary, Wasa MD and five others have been made respondents to the rule.
Earlier, on Monday, an unidentified man aged about 50, died as he fell into an open manhole on Culvert road in the evening while walking in the city’s Paltan area.
