Around 80 shanties were burnt to ashes as a fire broke out in a slum in the city's Hazaribagh area early yesterday, reports UNB.
The fire originated from electric short circuit in a shanty of 'Kalunagar Miabari' slum around 3:20am and soon engulfed the adjoining shanties, said Belal Hossain, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room.
On information, five firefighting units went to the spot and put out the blaze around 5:30am, he added. However, there is no report of any casualty and injury and the extent of damages is yet to be known.
