CU professor found dead at own residence

A professor of Chittagong University (CU) was found dead at his residence at Paharika Housing Society on the CU campus in Chittagong yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Md Abul Kalam Azad, 63, a professor of Mathematics department of the university and former Dean of Science faculty.
Belal Uddin Jahangir, officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station said whether it was a case of suicide or murder is still not clear.
“On information we rushed to the spot and recovered the body from his residence in the university area, hanging with the ceiling fan. We are yet to confirm whether the death was a murder or a suicide,” he said.
The body was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy. After getting the report of autopsy the reason behind the death will be confirmed, he added. 
Sources said, at 4pm yesterday the professor’s wife Dr Shahanara Begum, also a professor of department of Chemistry of CU, found her husband’s body hanging from the ceiling fan. She then informed the police and police rushed to the spot and recovered the body in the presence of an executive magistrate.
