No charge-sheet in the Rabiul Islam Robi murder case has been submitted yet, even though three years have passed after the murder.
Robi was a student of Rajshahi University (RU) School and College and a Bangladesh Chhatra League activist. Robi’s family members have expressed dismay over the delay in the judgment of the case.
The submission of the charge-sheet is being delayed as police higher-ups are yet to give the investigating officer (IO) a green light in the case, sources alleged. Robi was allegedly killed by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir men at Fine Arts Faculty area of the RU campus on April 15, 2013.
Robi’s younger brother, Shafiqul Islam, a university employee, had filed a murder case with Boallia police station against 12 Shibir and Chhatra Dal leaders and activists in connection with the murder. The accused in the murder are Setu, a Shibir activist, Babla, Sohag, Sayed, Rezaul Karim, Niton, former Chhatra Dal president of the Motihar thana unit, Rajon, Soruj, Koyel, Jamil, Kajol and Shakil. All are local residents and Jamaat-BNP men.
On May 5, 2014, the then investigating Officer (IO), Rezaus Sadik, submitted a charge-sheet against the 10 accused. Four of the alleged killers had been released since then. Koyel was identified as the son of Nur Muhammed Fakir, councillor of ward no. 26 and a BNP leader of the metropolitan unit. Shahfiqul Islam moved the Rajshahi session court for re-investigation of the case on May 12, 2014.
On April 24, 2015, the case was handed over to the DB police for investigation. PM Sheikh Hasina, who visited Rajshahi two years ago, had assured the university authorities that the trial in the case would be completed soon and those guilty in the case would be punished. But the DB has yet to submit the charge sheet in the case.
