South Africa batsman Temba Bavuma admitted that the Bangladesh had outsmarted them on day one to take the control but hoped to regain the position of dominance in a bid to press for the victory.
The visitors, fresh from a first ever ODI series loss to Bangladesh, made a fluent start to the first Test having posted 104-1 in the first session. They however couldn’t maintain the rhythm as Bangladesh bowlers tied them down in the middle session to leave at bay.
In the second session, they scored just 61 runs in 29 overs at the cost of the two wickets but what they got a horrible experience in the post-tea session in which they lost the rest of the seven wickets for 83 runs. Overall the downfall was
sensational as they slumped to 248 from 136 for one. “Skill-wise Bangladesh were best and they outshined us but we want to regain the control of the game as early as possible,” Bavuma who brought up his career best 54 in his third Test told the reporters yesterday.
“The momentum was not with us and we can’t build any partnership,” he added terming the fall of three wickets at the same over as the turning point of the day.
“After losing three wickets in an over, we started losing the momentum and they started creating pressure. We couldn’t turn the things from there on.”
“The left arm pacer (Mustafizur) was outstanding. I had to take time to assess him. His cutter was really good, specially those which he did with high speed.”
Bavuma said he didn’t see Mustafizur’s bowling on video ahead of dealing with him. “I am not much fond of analyzing video footage. I talked to Hashim Amla to understand him. I tried my best.” He termed the wicket as slower stating, “It was tough to bat here. It was slow and slow.”
