To pay tribute to the historic speech made by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7 in 1971, theatre troupe Natyabhumi will stage the fourth show of their 19th production ‘Rajaboli’ today at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Silpakala Academy (BSA) in the capital’s Segun Bagicha.
Written by Dr Muktadir Chowdhury, the play has been directed by Shahjahan Shovon. ‘Rajaboli’ is a play about a forgotten history of a royal family of Tripura. The main theme of the play is the anxiety between the non-violent offering of love and the violence. The play shows that the King of Tripura named Govinda Manikya becomes the envy of the priest Roghupoti of the temple for protesting against the violent animal sacrifice for gods.
The jealous priest raised the anger of the subject of the kingdom against the king by telling them about the goddess satisfaction. They then plan to kill the king, but king defeats all the conspiracies of Roghupati and stop all types of animal sacrifice in the kingdom.
Like King Govinda Manikya, Bangalees’ undisputed leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered his epoch-making speech of independence protesting against the injustice of the Nation.
The cast of the play includes Rahitul Alam Apon, Rajib Chandra, Shahjahan Shovon, Sifat Ara Bhuiyan, Sharmin Koli, Shishir Ahmed Sohel, Imam Hossain Emon, Mohosina Shobnom, Taslima Akter Dristy, Monirul Islam Rajib, Protap Chandra Burman and others.
