Explain changes in nat’l curricula

High Court asks government
UNB

The High Court (HC) yesterday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why changes in the national curricula excluding the write-ups of well-known writers should not be declared illegal, reports UNB. A HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order following a writ petition. Curriculum expert Momtaz Jahan and former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Prof Anwar Hossain filed the writ petition challenging the legality of bringing changes in the national curricula. The education secretary and the chairman of the National Curriculum andTextbook Board have been asked to respond to the rule within four weeks.
According to the writ petition, some write-ups of renowned writers, including Golam Mustafa, Humayun Azad, SM Wajed Ali, Sanaul Haque, Satyen Sen, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Upendra Kishore Ray Chowdhury, have been excluded from the syllabuses, while some write-ups on religion have been included in Bangla curricula from class-II to class -IX as per Hefazat-e Islam’s demand.
