Rain at different places

The meteorological department yesterday (Monday) issued warning signal number 2 for the river ports in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar regions and number 1 for ports down the rivers south of Dhaka, amid chances of gusty winds and rains. "We had to take the precaution because of the coming together of a westerly and easterly air over Bangladesh. There is  heavy moisture content in the air, which has been causing rain in different parts of the country for the past three days," a senior meteorologist told The Independent yesterday.
Such weather conditions may prevail mostly in the eastern parts of the country, he added, noting that because of it Comilla had been pelted by heavy overnight showers that totalled 109mm till 6am yesterday.
There was 24mm of rainfall in Srimangal, 11mm in Faridpur and 11mm in Barisal. In the southern part, Bhola received 51mm of rainfall at the same time. But there were no reports of gusty winds as yet.
Dhaka city and its suburbs had showers late on Sunday evening. The Met Office at Agargaon measured seven mm of rainfall. The capital recorded one mm of rainfall in the afternoon.
Elsewhere, some rain was reported yesterday, the highest 43mm in Feni, followed by 24mm in Sitakunda, 23mm in Chittagong, 11mm in Rangamati and three mm in Comilla.
Although the sky was heavily overcast in Dhaka, there was no rain till the evening.
Sunday evening's rain damaged mango trees, but helped Dhaka citizens enjoy a dust-free cool day yesterday.
