Inu bins US report

Rejecting the US report on human rights situation in Bangladesh, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu yesterday said this report is baseless, reports UNB. Earlier on Friday, the US Department of State released the executive summary of the 2016 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices.
“We officially reject the report released by the US as it was not made on the basis of proper information and we can’t support such careless remarks about the internal affairs of any country,” he said while talking to reporters at the ministry.
About the US claim over the ‘increasing’ activities of extremist organisations in Bangladesh, Inu said, “The militants who have become active in the country in recent times have no international link and it has not been proved yet.”
However, Bangladesh has been able to combat militant activities than the US government, he claimed.
Referring to the extrajudicial killings mentioned in the US report, Inu said, “The US has termed the killings during anti-militant drives as extrajudicial ones which is unfortunate. Though one or two incidents of extrajudicial killings have taken place in the country those who were involved in those killings will be brought to book.”
Terming the report on Bangladesh media as ‘absolute lie’ the Information Minister said, “There’re 1800 online media in the country which do not face any obstacles to run their activities.”
“However, the government has suspended the activities of 30-40 online media for hurting religious sentiment and involvement in terrorist activities,” he added.
