Nine get life term for murder, rape

Nine people were sentenced life term imprisonment for murder and raping a housewife in two districts yesterday.
In Thakurgaon,  a court  yesterday sentenced four people to suffer life term imprisonment for violating a housewife at Killapara village in Sadar upazila in 2015.
The court also fined them Taka one lakh each, a court official said. Judge of District Woman and Child Repression Prevention court Mirza M Ayub Ali pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are Alamgir, 32, Ismail Hossain, 30, Arif Hossain, 22, and Yusuf Ali, 20, residents of Madhabpur-Killapara village of the upazila.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the convicts entered the house of a day-laborer Mijanur Rahman and raped his wife at night on June 18, 2015 in absence of Mijanur.
On the next day, victim Ruhia filed a case with Sadar Police Station against the four persons.After investigation, police submitted charge-sheet before the court against them.
Later, after examining witnesses and evidence the judge declared the verdict.In Bogra, a court sentenced five people to life term imprisonment for killing a government employee in Gabtoli upazila of Bogra district in 2011.The lifers are Md Jahidul Islam, Md Abdullah, both sons of Abul late Abul Hossen of village Tarafsartaj in Gabtoli upazila, Md Kharshed Alam, Md Liton Mia, and Md Khakon Mia, son of Tara Mia of village Vatkandi in Bogra Sadar upazila. The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each. In default, they will have to suffer one year more in prison.
Besides, the court sentenced the convicts to ten years imprisonment for beating up the witnesses and fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, they are to suffer six more months in jail.
According to the prosecution, Md Rabiul Islam, 25, a post office employee was hacked to death by the convicts on February 24, 2011 in a banana field. Razib Mahmud Mojnu, and Momin, two siblings got seriously injured in the incident.Rafiqul Islam, another sibling of the deceased filed a murder case with Gabtoli Police Station the next day.  After investigation, police pressed charges against ten people.
