Different political parties and socio cultural organisations including the ruling Awami League (AL) has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the historic March 7 across the country today, reports BSS. Marking the day, the main programme will start with hosting of the national and party flags at Bangabandhu Bhaban and at the party’s central office at 6:30am, said a press release yesterday. The party leaders will also pay tribute by placing wreaths at the portrait of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the capital at 7:00am.
All unit committees of AL including Wards, Unions, Municipalities, Thanas, Upazilas and districts will hold discussions, rallies and will play the epoch-making March 7 speech of Bangabandhu.
On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through his historic speech at Suhrawardy Udyan (the then Race Course Maidan), called the unarmed people of Bangladesh to fight against Pakistani occupation forces, it said.
Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday urged all including leaders, activists and associate organisations to observe the programmes with due respect and befitting manner.
In a message on the eve of the day, he said, “The historic speech of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will inspire and encourage the Bengali nations for decades”.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, asked all party leaders and activists to take necessary initiatives to play Bangabandhu’s historic speech on March 7, 1971 with due respect.
