The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) nabbed two alleged drug peddlers along with 20,000 yaba tablets from Jatrabari area of the capital yesterday.
The arrested were identified as Selim Reaza, 39 and Habibur Rahman, 38.
However, two others alleged drug peddlers Rahat Mondhol and Iqbal Hossain managed to escape, said DNC Director (Operations and Intelligence) Deputy Inspector General Syed Towfique Uddin Ahmed.
Getting secrete information, some teams of DNC, led by Inspector Shamsul Kabir, were keeping surveillances in some areas of the capital. DNC had information that a drug loaded truck (Dhaka Metro- Ta-11-2774) would go to Rajshahi via Dhaka city.
When the truck was passing the Jatrabari area on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, they intercepted the truck and after searching the DNC team seized 20,000 yaba tablets and arrested the two drug peddlers, said DIG Syed Towfique Uddin Ahmed.
During the primary interrogation, they admitted that they were involved in drug peddling for long. There were several drug related cases against them in different police stations of the country.
A case was filed in this connection, said Mukul Jyoti Chakma, Deputy Director of DNC Dhaka Metro (North).
