A mobile court conducted by the district administration and Chittagong City Corporation authorities in a drive yesterday freed a canal near Amin Jute Mills from the clutches of grabbers. A number of kitchen markets established on the bank of the canal used to block the natural flow of its water.
The mobile court led by executive magistrate Tamim Al Yeamin started the drive around 10:00am and removed a good number of illegal structures from the canal bank. Tamim Al Yeamin said that the canal was freed from grabbers by conducting the drive.
The grabbers for a long time had kept the canal bank under their illegal occupation by erecting the structures. “Due to the illegal structures on the canal bank, this area faces water stagnation after a moderate shower,” said the executive magistrate. “As we have pulled down the illegal structures, now there is no obstruction on free flow of water.
