The amusement spots in Khulna city are still witnessing a huge rush of visitors as the city dwellers and people from its suburbs are crowding there in large numbers to enjoy Eid-ul holiday.
People including children, couples and young men and women were seen streaming to Gilatola Cantonment Zoo and Shishu Park, Wonderland Shishu Park at Khalishpur, Jatisangho Shishu Park (United Nations Children Park) at Shantidham More, Shaheed Hadis Park in the heart of city, Rupsha Bridge area and chars (shoals) of the rivers Bhairab and Rupsha on the Eid day and in the next two days too.
Children enjoyed several fun rides, including toy trains, marry-go-round and a number of wheel-based rides.
Low-income people were found crowding the Jatisangho Shishu Park, Shaheed Hadis Park, Rupsha Bridge area and chars where there is no entry fee. Khulna, being a riverine divisional headquarter where over 15 lakh people live in 45.65 square km area in 31 wards, lacks recreational spots given the size of its population.
People from the neighbouring upazilas of the city were also seen visiting the amusement spots.
Authorities of different recreation centres in the city said the number of people coming for passing time and sharing joys of Eid was increasing as the city dwellers had already started coming back to Khulna.
The Rupsha Bridge, which is a favourite hang around spot of the youths, has also drawn huge crowds during Eid.
Amina Khatun, 20, and Mahmud Akter, 28, a newly married couple, said the Rupsha Bridge is one of the most charming amusement spots in the city.
Vendors have set up makeshift shops near the Rupsha Bridge.
They are doing a good business on toys and foods as the place remains crowed till 8:00 pm on such occasion. To tackle different problems including missing of children, bullying attitude of shop owners and other untoward situation on the occasion, Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) have been taken all-out measures to beef up security in city and its outskirts said KMP Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi.
“In addition, we are taking actions against different aggressive make-shift shop owners according to the complaints of the visitors,” said Commissioner Nibash Chandra, adding that the initiatives would remain in place in the amusement spots for five to seven days as long as the rush of visiting people continues.
Families with children are thronging the Wonderland Shishu Park, Jatisangho Shishu Park, equipped with toys and fun rides.
Humayun Kabir, 36, a private job holder from Daulatpur area in the city, came to the park with his wife Taslima Khatun, 28, and only child Ankhi, 8, on Monday.
“To enhance the joy of my family, I have brought them to this Wonderland Park,” said Humayun.
“Previously, I would go to this park to enjoy the toy trains, marry-go-round and a number of wheel-based rides. But the charges of the fun rides are much higher on the plea of Eid festival. I can’t afford enjoying the rides,” he added.
Echoing him, most of the visitors thronging different recreational places expressed the grievance.
