Discussion on Intl Womens Day today
The National Press Club (JPC) will arrange a discussion today, marking the International Womens Day.
The discussion titled We want media free from male-female discrimination will be held at VIP lounge of the club at 10am, said a press release of the press club. The International Womens Day is celebrated on March 8 every year.
Bangabandhus birthday programmes in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Elaborate daylong programmes have been finalised to celebrate the 98th birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children Day-2017 in the district on March 17.
The district and upazila administrations, Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations, City Corporation, Shishu Academy, Shilpokola Academy, will celebrate the day. The programmes include placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, cake cutting ceremonies, childrens gatherings and rallies, and speech competitions, screening of documentary films on Bangabandhu.
The observance will begin through placing wreaths at the Mural of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Square in the city in the morning.
Two held with yaba tablets
Police detained two persons along with 2,000 yaba tablets from Chittagong-Coxs Bazar highway of Chittagong district on Friday.
The arrested were Jashim Uddin alias Mycale Jashim,32, and his wife Nasima Akhter,24. Sergeant Sohel Sarkar, of Patiya crossing highway police said a patrol team of highway police challenged the couple in Patiya crossing area around 12.30 am suspecting their movement and recovered 2,000 yaba tablets after searching their bodies.
