Goalkeeper Kiran Kumar stole the last show with saving two penalty shots, as TC Sports Club of Maldives annexed the title of the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup football tournament defeating Pocheon Citizen Football Club of South Korean by 4-2 in tie breaker at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong.
The four goals thriller of scheduled 90 minutes final was locked on 2-2 and the extra 30 minutes also ended in draw. In the tie breaker, Kim Seong and Kyeong Deuk could score from the penalty spot for the Korean side while Kiran Kumar halted captain Cho Tai Woo and Ko Ji Man’s attempts.
Elsayed Eissa, Stewart Coniluis, Ibrahim Yameen and Adnan converted one each for TC Sports to shatter Pocheon Citizen’s hopes.
TC Sports Club kicked off the tournament with a convincing 1-0 victory over Abahani Limited (Dhaka), one of the tournament’s favourites, looked indomitable up to reaching in the semifinal. The Group A champions, on the day despite began the run with a slow pace, made the first threat in the seven minute with Ibrahim Mahudhee Hussain’s strong side-volley hit the side net. The Maldives’ outfit keeping their stride made the
real threat in 19th minutes and took the lead through Haneef Abdulah powered a sharp header into far post when Hassan Naiz felt a pin-pointed right flank kick in the area (1-0).
TC Sports could made the lead double on 32nd minute but Ibrahim failed to utilise might be the easiest chance of the day when he shot the ball straight to hapless Pocheon goalkeeper on one and one situation.
TC Sports had to pay for it when they conceded two consecutive goals inside eight minutes with Jang Yong equalised the margin on 36th and an own goal from Farah Ahmed gave Pocheon the lead on 44th minute.
Jang Yong, who brought Pocheon Citizen into the contention, was very much sharp-witted to send a corner from Kyeong Deuk with a header being strongly marked by TC Club defender and the goalkeeper (1-1).
The mighty Korean side, who was the most organised and disciplined team and played passing football keeping their domination in every match, eventually took the lead on 44th minutes and this time it was gifted goal with TC defender Farah Ahmed trying to clear the ball headed it straight into their own net (2-1).
Maldives coach Nizam Mahmud’s men, who changed the strategy and began to play with counter attacks, equaled the margin when they also got almost a gifted goal on 82nd minute.
This time Azzam Mohammed’s volley from top of the box deflected a defender before enter into net (2-2).
After the scheduled 90 minutes game, Pocheon were very closer to regain the lead but Jang Yong attempt was about to cross the goal line but Azzam Mohammed made a great save to bring the match to extra 30 minutes time and to tie-breaker.
