Candidates urged to abide by electoral code of conducts

Speakers at a function here on Thursday urged the candidates and their workers to abide by the electoral code of conducts in by elections properly to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the pre and post election period in Gaibandha-1 constituency, reports BSS.
The candidates and their workers may face different types of punishments including fine by the mobile courts on charge of violating the electoral code of conduct in the election areas side by side with canceling his or her candidature, they said.
They said while addressing a meeting organized by District Election Office on electoral code of conduct for the Member of Parliament (MP) candidates in Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) by election here on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad addressed the function as the chief guest and superintendent of police (SP) Masrukur Rahman Khaled was present as the special guest while regional election officer and returning officer GM Shahatab Uddin presided over the meeting.
DC M. Abdus Samad said the mobile courts led by executive magistrates will be on duty in the constituency during the pre and post election period.
The three-tier security measures would be taken to hold the by elections in a free, fair and neutral manner, said SP M. Masrukur Rahman Khaled.
All the candidates and their representatives and journalists of print and electronic media attended the meeting.
Sundarganj UNO SM Golam Kibira, additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk, assistant director of RAB M. Kayser Ali and other officials concerned were present on the occasion.
A total of seven candidates are contesting in the by election to be held on March 22, said Abdul Malek, upazila election officer.
The seat fell vacant following the killing of ruling party lawmaker Monjurul Islam Liton.
