While Bangladesh were busy in playing a two-dayer practice match against Sri Lanka XI at De Zoysa Stadium at Moratuwa, the left-handed opener Imrul Kayes has been practicing in Mirpur to regain his complete fitness.
During the tour in New Zealand, Kayes sustained injury on his thigh. For it, he had to return home without playing the last Test of the two Test series. Therefore he yet another sidelined with the recurrence of his injury in Hyderabad at the time of practice match before going into the historic one-off Test against top-ranked Indian side.
Since then, he has been struggling to make him fit ahead of the Sri Lankan series. Selectors announced Test squad for the series keeping Imrul out of the squad. They suggested playing two rounds of games in BCL, where he proved himself by slamming century.
“I have no problem with my fitness because I played last two rounds of games in Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), where I faced no difficulties in batting and fielding,” said Imrul Kayes.
“Besides fielding, I have been batting for a longer period without any trouble,” Kayes told media.
The 30-year-old, who so far played 27 Tests, 65 ODIs along with 11 T20Is for Bangladesh, said that he is trying his best to back in the main fold again.
“Actually I am not thinking about hundred Test,” he said. Last he said that his lone thinking is to return to the national fold by performing better.
“Now it is my one and only target. I’m working on for it. I’ve been working at gym and net since so many days so that I could come back again in the national fold,” Meherpur-born batsman also said.
Bangladesh will launch their campaign with Test which will be played at Galle on March 7. They will then play their milestone 100th Test in Colombo’s P Sara Stadium on March 15, the Test that produced an excitement amongst the players, officials, the people of the country alongside the fans across the world.
It is learnt from the BCB insider that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) requested Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLCB) to do something special to make it memorable. Along with that, the board will give special cap for the team’s players.
Asked if he feels any excitement to play the landmark Test, Imrul Kayes said that he will deem him as fortunate if he is considered for the milestone Test in Colombo on March 15.
“Playing Test for the national team always is very important for every player. All should try to play better cricket for it. Those, who will get opportunity to play the hundredth Test, will be lucky,” he said, adding “If I could play the 100th Test match, I will then be deemed myself as fortunate.”
“I just came back from injury. I don’t know whether selectors will select me or not for the second and last Test against Sri Lanka. If they select me I will then give my out-all best for the team’s cause,” he signed off.
