2 found dead in Rajshahi
Two people, including a woman, were found dead in Rajshahi city and Durgapur upazila of the district on Thursday.
Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, said a woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her house at Hetem Kha of Rajshahi city on Thursday afternoon. Quoting family members, police said Trisha, 19, wife of Babu, a resident of the area had an altercation with her husband over a family feud in the afternoon.
Later, Trisha locked her in a room and committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan, they claimed.
On information, police recovered the body, breaking open the door and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue.
In another incident, an unidentified man, aged about 50, was found dead in a water body at Haripur in Durgapur municipality on Thursday morning, said Ruhul Alam, officer-in-charge of Durgapur Police Station.
Couple held with yaba tablets
Police arrested a couple along with 2,000 yaba tablets from Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at Badamtala of Chittagong early yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Jasim and Nasima Akhter. Suspecting the movement of the couple in a motorcycle around 12:30am, a patrol team of police challenged them and recovered the yaba tablets after searching their bodies and arrested them, said highway police sergeant Sohel.
He said Jasim had long been involved in Yaba trading and was wanted in a number of cases filed with Patia Police Station.
Independence Day programmes in Rangpur
RANGPUR: The district administration at a preparatory meeting here has finalised elaborate programmes to celebrate the Independence and National Day- 2017 here in a befitting manner on March 26, reports BSS.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman presided over the meeting at his conference room on Thursday afternoon.
Freedom fighters, heads of different government departments and educational institutions, political leaders, representatives of the socio-cultural and voluntary organisations and law enforcement agencies attended the meeting.
The celebration will begin through heralding 31 gun salutes at Police Line and placing of wreaths at Central Shaheed Minar, Swadhinota Smriti Stambha `Arjan’ and monuments of martyred freedom fighters at zero hours on the day.
