Erosion has taken a serious turn along the two-kilometre river bank of the Meghna, close to Ilisha ferry terminal, since the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
About 200 metres of river bank has already been devoured by the river.
People of South Rajapur villages and traders of adjacent Ilisha Johnson Bazaar and ferry terminal area have been gripped in panic.
On Sunday, a large number of traders shifted their establishments from the river side and some others were preparing to move to safer places.
Local hilsha fish suppliers -- Abu Taher, Abu Sayeed and Abul Hajari – said if measures are not taken immediately to check the erosion in the area about 2000 families will be rendered homeless.
Abdul Hekim, executive engineer of Water Development Board (WDB) in Bhola, said they have no fund for taking immediate measures. The situation has been brought to the knowledge of the higher authorities.
