Woman, daughter killed
GAIBANDHA: A housewife and her six-month old daughter were strangled to death allegedly by her husband over a family feud at Khamar Ballamjhar village under Sadar upazila in the district early yesterday, reports BSS. The dead were identified as Nazma Begum, 30, wife of Samiul Islam and their daughter Shamima Khatun of the village. Confirming the news, Sadar thana officer in-charge Mehedi Hassan said the couple had an altercation over family problem on Wednesday night.
Following morning the neighbours found Nazma and their daughter dead at Samiul’s house and informed police.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Locals caught Samiul while trying to flee and handed him over to police, he added.
A case was filed with Gaibandha Sadar police station in this connection.
Six fishermen jailed for catching ‘jatka’

A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced six fishermen to 18 months’ imprisonment for catching ‘jatka’ (hilsa fry) from the Meghna River in Haimchar upazila for defying a ban on fishing.
The convicts are Dulal Mizi, 30, Akhter Hossain, 21, Saheb Ali, 32, Bashir Bhuiyan, 27, Monir Hossain, 26, and Shahid Ullah, 28, all residents of Gobindapur village in Sadar upazila.
Abu Hasnat Mohammad Mainuddin, executive officer of Haimchar upazila, said a team of river police conducted a drive on the river in the upazila and arrested the six fishermen while catching ‘jatka’.
Later, the arrestees were produced before the mobile court, led by executive magistrate Abu Hasnat Mohammad Mainuddin, which sent them to jail.
The government imposed the ban for two months—March and April—on catching all kinds of fish in the Meghna and Padma rivers.
Missing child found dead in Chuadanga septic tank
Chuadanga: A minor girl was found dead in a septic tank at Ishwarchandrapur village in Damurhuda upazila yesterday afternoon a day after she went missing, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mukta, 3, daughter of Mister of the village.
Abu Zihad Fakhrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station, said Mukta went missing on Wednesday afternoon when she went out of the house for playing in a field adjacent to her house.
Locals spotted Mukta’s body in the septic tank of the house of Nasir Uddin and informed police.
Later, police recovered the body around 2pm and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue.
Police detained Mukta’s father and Nasir Uddin for interrogation.
Attempted robbery foiled, suspects beaten to death
Brahmanbaria: Two suspected robbers were beaten to death by a mob in Jagannathpur area of Nabinagar upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Haque, a resident of Rasulabad village in Nabinagar upazila and his associate Yeasin, resident of Kajulia village.
Officer-in-Charge of Nabinagar Police Station Imtiaz Ahmed said neighbours caught the two robbers after hearing screaming of former UP member Sentu Miah’s family members when they went to rob his house on Wednesday night.
The angry mob beat the duo indiscriminately, leaving them critically injured, Imtiaz added.
Later, they were taken to Nabinagar health complex where doctor declared them dead, the OC said.
