UNB

The High Court yesterday granted bail to a woman Sumi Akhter who has been languishing in jail for eight years without trial in a murder case, reports UNB. The HC also ordered a trial court to depose separate cases of two female detainees Shahnaz Begum and Razia Sultana within three months. Besides, the court rejected a bail petition of another detainee woman Rani alias Nupur. The HC bench led by Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order. Earlier on November 30, the High Court issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why the four female prisoners of Kashimpur jail, Gazipur should not be granted bail.
