Question paper-leak gang held

Staff Reporter

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested eight members of a gang that allegedly used to leak question papers. The arrestees include the gang leader.

The gang members were identified as Romon Hossein alias Mahir, Md Tarikuzzaman Hemel alias Abir, Md Razib Ali, Md Ariful Islam alias Arif, Antar, Md Liton Mia, Md Jahirul Islam alias Shuvo and Md Rafikul Islam.
According to Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of the DB, the accused were picked up from different parts of the country. During primary interrogation, they admitted to leaking multiple-choice questions (MCQs) by taking pictures of those while they were being sent from the main centre to the sub-centres of a district, he added.
Addressing a press briefing at the DMP media centre at Minto Road in the city, Baten said the arrestees used to solve the MCQs within 10 minutes and upload those on their secret Facebook group from where students would get the answers right before the examination.
“We have come to know that the gang leader, Rafikul Islam, is an English teacher at Kamalapur Railway High School and runs a coaching centre called Gyankosh. He would take Tk. 1,000 to Tk. 5,000 from each customer in advance,” he added.
A case has been filed against the eight and they were produced in court. The police sought seven days’ remand for them, but the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate granted only three days of police remand.
