60 closed rail stations to resume soon

Railway Minister Mujibul Haque yesterday said at least 60 closed rail stations will be made operative soon, reports BSS.
"Whenever assumes office, the Awami League government works to develop the railway sector," he said speaking as chief guest at a function marking the signing of an agreement to appoint consultants for the 'Bangabandhu Setu Rail Sangjog' project at the railway ministry auditorium in the capital.
Additional Director General (infrastructure) of Railway Kazi Rafiqul Alam and General Manager of Oriental Consultancies Global Company, Japan, Raiowhaiee Ishi signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Railway Secretary Firoz Salaha Uddin, Railway Director General Amzad Hossain, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative to Bangladesh Takatoshi Nishikata, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh First Secretary Toshiyuki Noguchi and senior officials of the ministry were present on the occasion.
The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the 'Bangabandhu Setu Rail Sangjog' project on December 06, 2016 with an estimated cost of Taka 9,734.07 crore.
The minister said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for the development of railway sector. New rail lines are being constructed on different routes, he said, adding that new coaches have been procured for the welfare of the commuters.
Mujibul Huq alleged that the BNP had destroyed the railway sector when it was in power.
He said the government has taken a project to construct rail lines from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar. The works on the project will complete during the tenure of the present government, he added.
