Week-long Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival begins
This year, 50 theatre groups performing at the festival

Bangladesh Patha Natak Utsab 2017 (Bangladesh Street Threatre Festival), a week-long event organised by Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad, has begun yesterday on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
Moloyashree Hashmi, a well-known Indian theatre activist and wife of the martyred theatre personality Safdar Hashmi, inaugurated the festival as chief guest yesterday evening. Presided over by Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad president Mannan Hira, International Theatre Institute (ITI) Worldwide President Ramendu Majumdar, cultural personality Nasiruddin Yusuf, Sammilita Sangskritik jote president Golam Kuddus, professor Dr Biswajit Ghosh and theatre activist Jhuna Chowdhury were present at the inaugural ceremony as special guests.
After the inauguration, Bangladesh Bratachari Sangha presented a Bratachari dance, while Gazipur Mukta Mancha Natyadal presented a mimo drama titled Chor Samagra at the festival venue.
Aranyak Natyadal staged their street drama Murkho Loker Murkho Kotha scripted and directed by Mannan Hira. Besides, Nipel Paal and his troupe from Tangail took the stage with a special presentation titled Sang Jatra.
A Manipuri classical dance to be presented today and Ramayan Pala will be staged tomorrow. The festival will also feature Lathi Khela on March 4, Mahua Sundorir Pala on March 5, Gambhira dance recital on March 6 and Alkap on March 7.
Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad has been organising the street theatre festival on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar since 2002. This year, as many as 50 theatre groups, enlisted with Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad, will stage their plays in the festival until March 7.
