Ayamon, one of the leading shuttlers of the country, is expected to start as favourite for the boys’ singles title as the second inter-university badminton tournament titled ‘East-West University Winter Smash-2017. The tournament organised by East West University and sponsored by Pran Karako will kick off today on the university campus at 4 pm.
Ayamon of BRAC University has already established himself as leading contender at national level may face tough resistance from Mukhtar of Daffodils University along with reigning champion Koushik of IUBAT to lift the coveted title.
Md Ali Hasan Alam, general manager (operation) of PRAN Foods Ltd, stated this at a press conference at its office in the capital yesterday. “We have been involved with the tournament for the second time to make badminton more popular in Bangladesh. The main aim of PRAN Krako is to work with country’s young generation and help them flourishing their talents.”
Thirty-two public and private universities of the country will participate in the eight-day championship. Five events- boys’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ singles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles have been included in the tournament.
The champions of each event will be awarded Tk 10,000 each as cash rewards and the runners-up will get Tk 5,000 each. Razibul Islam Lanin, brand manager of PRAN Foods Ltd, ASM Ashif, assistant professor at East West University & moderator of the university’s sports club and Ayaz Al Amin, Referee of Bangladesh Badminton Federation, among others also spoke on the occasion.
