Bangladesh have to face-off the stern test of Malaysia in the opener of the 2017 Men Hockey World League Round-2 at Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium on March 4 to reach their first target of the meet.

Bangladesh set their first target to play in the semifinal stage what head coach Oliver Kuntz revealed at the formal press meet in the capital yesterday.
“We want to evolve through the tournament match by match. In this way, we want to progress to the semifinals. If we could do it, we will then target to play the final,” said Garman-born coach Oliver.
A total of eight teams from three continents including Asia, Africa and Oceania, splitting into two pools-Pool A and Pool B- will take part in the nine-day competition. Bangladesh have been clubbed in the Pool A with Malaysia, Oman and Fiji. Pool B has been formed by China, Egypt, Ghana and Sri Lanka.
Khaja Rahmatullah, chairman of the tournament committee, revealed all at the press conference at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium yesterday.
“We have earmarked Taka one crore as budget to conduct the meet and meet up the other expenses. All the budgetary money came from the sponsor companies- FMC group and Index group,” said Rahmatullah.
Khaja informed that Ghana, Malaysia and Oman among the foreign teams meanwhile arrived in Dhaka. The rump of the teams sans Sri Lanka will follow them. All of them are scheduled to land here yesterday. But Sri Lanka is expected to reach here today.
Of them, Ghana came in Bangladesh a week ago to play three practice matches prior to the tournament.
And Malaysia and Oman came here on Tuesday to dovetail with the weather and condition.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation announced the  national team yesterday with Russell Mahmud Jimmy as captain.
