UNB

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved a charge-sheet against seven people, including five officials of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), in a graft case, reports UNB
The Commission at its regular meeting on Wednesday approved a proposal for submitting charge-sheet against them, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the news agency.
He said the charge-sheet will be submitted before the court soon against suspended executive officers (diplomats and privileged persons' tax free shop) of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Bulbul Akthter and Roushan Ara, its deputy manger Syed Md Nazmul Arefin, former customs inspectors Kazi Rafiqul Islam and Kalipad Das, former accounts supervisor of Biman Bangladesh Airlines ABM Zakaria and Kamruzzaman Rubel of Mohakhali, Dhaka.
On December 4, 2006, the national anti-graft agency filed a case against them with Gulshan Police Station for allegedly plundering nearly Tk 5 crore from Parjatan Corporation.
According to the case statement, Nazmul Arefin was earlier the executive officer of the corporation's Department and Privileged Persons' Tax Free Shop located in Mohakhali and he in collusion with others withdrew duty-free wine and beer and other products against 216 fake passbooks issued to beneficiaries. Later, he sold these products in local market dodging a duty of around Tk 5 crore to the government.
On August 28, 2016, the ACC arrested deputy manager (PTS Division) of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Syed Md Nazmul Arefin from the city's Segunbagicha area in connection with the graft case.
