The government should declare the March 25 as ‘National Genocide Day’, shipping minister Shajahan Khan said yesterday. “At least one lakh people were killed at the night of March 25 in 1971. The Pakistani junta killed innocent people in the name of ‘operation search light’, which is a barbaric and shameful genocide in the global history,” Shajahan Khan, convener, Sramik Karmachari Peshajibi Muktijoddha Samonnoy Parishad, also the shipping minister told reporters at a press briefing held in city’s Segunbagicha. He further said that the Pakistani junta had killed 30 lakh innocent people including women and children in the nine-month during the War of Liberation in 1971.

The efforts of the government to have Bangla established as an official language of the United Nations do not seem to be bringing any positive outcome owing to many factors, especially the financial one…
