Kayes hits a ton timely for South

Sports Reporter

Imrul Kayes smashed 136 as Prime Bank South Zone put on 296 against Islami Bank East Zone on the opening day of the fifth round game in the franchisee-based Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.

At the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sanzamul Islam’s five-wicket haul helped leaders BCB North Zone restrict Walton Central Zone to paltry 181.
East Zone vs South Zone
Prime Bank South Zone opted to bat first after winning the toss on Chittagong surface. After losing Fazle Mahmud cheaply, the national team opener Imrul Kayes anchored the innings. Kayes, who missed out of the first Test squad in Sri Lank due to his lack of match fitness, proved his match fitness clobbering an outstanding innings of 136. He clattered 18 fours and two sixes in his patient 210-ball knock. En route to his 136, he stitched together a sting of helpful partnerships before being caught. The left-handed opener clubbed 84-run second stand with Anamul Haque, who fell for 73-ball 58 with eight fours and one six before being bowling by Saqlain Sajib and 53-run with Nazmul Hossain for the ninth wicket. Nazmul bashed for 23.
North Zone vs Central Zone
Asked to bat first, defending champions Walton Central Zone fell into the barrage of combined attack led by Sanjamul Islam and Forhad Reza. The duo grabbed eight wickets between them. Islam chipped in with 5-45. Reza claimed three wickets for 41.
Forhad Reza launched the proceedings when he sent back opener Abdul Mazid being caught for 14. Opener Saif Hassan then made a gritty resistance with Mehrab Hossain Junior to break the shackles of North Zone’s bowling unit. The duo added 46 runs for the second wicket stand before the fall of Junior, who got out for 26.
Therefore, Hassan tried to stretch the innings with the national discard Marshall Ayub but the team faced a mini-collapse as they lost three wickets in the space of six runs. Forhad Reza once again had Marshall Ayub and Nurul Hasan Sohan in his two consecutive overs and Sanzamul Islam removed Saif Hassan while they were stuttering at 125 for five. Although Saif smashed  63 off 136, Ayub and Sohan trudged back with single digit.
Sanzamul Islam then trapped Tanvir Haider and Sharifullah lbw for single figure mark. Islam later got rid of Mohammad Sharif and Shahadat Hossain Rajib after Naeem Islam removed for skipper Mosharraf Hossain. Taibur Rahman Parvez remained at stumps at 40.
