The question is now inevitable. Mushfiqur Rahim hardly comes out from a press conference without facing the question of his wicket-keeping since he starts his career. But these days it became a fixed matter every time he meets the press.
Ever since he is appointed as the captain of the team, question raises as to how he would manage the multiple task of doing batting, keeping and captaining. From the day one, the diminutive man made it clear, he is enjoying all those jobs and that he has no intention to leave any of those.
But the question remains relentless and he is responsible for that. There is hardly any series where he didn’t make any blunder behind the wicket. He though as a batsman remains the best of the country alongside Tamim Iqbal.
There is however no stopping in making silly mistakes behind the wicket. Lately the level of mistakes has been reached in an alarming position, which even made the people of the top echelon of BCB worried.
The call to leave the job of wicket-keeping has been intensified. But Mushfiqur remained adamant of doing all of those jobs simultaneously as he was from the day one.
As Bangladesh prepares to leave the country for Sri Lanka, Mushfiqur again was asked about his decision to leave the wicket-keeping. And it was the question he probably faced 1000 times since the Test against India. He was supposed to be angry but surprisingly he remained clam,
reiterating his desire to do the multiple tasks at a time.
“Decision is up to the management and board,” Mushfiqur replied as usually. “In the last Asia Cup, I didn’t do wicket-keeping in three or four matches because that was the decision of the management. So if they don’t want me to do the job, I won’t do.”
“But if you ask me about my likings, my answer will remain same. I enjoy all those jobs—batting, keeping and captaining. As long as I am enjoying I don’t feel to opt out any of the task.”
Against India in Hyderabad Test, Mushfiqur Rahim made a school-boy like mistake behind the wicket when he had the hell of time to take off the bail of Wriddhiman Saha, a wicket-keeper batsman like him. Saha later made a century after surviving on 4, to help the side amass a gigantic total.
Mushfiqur Rahim however put the example of Saha when he was reminded of his mistakes.
“Wriddhiman Shaha is now perhaps the best wicket-keeper in the world. He too did a mistake against us as he failed to take the catch of Mahmudullah Riyad.”
Mushfiqur termed the cricket as his bread and butter, saying there is no place here to make hypocrisy.
“We remain alert always but still we do mistakes sometimes because we are human being. We try our level best of not making mistakes. There is no opportunity to make hypocrisy as cricket is my bread and butter.”
