Eight people were killed in separate road accidents in four district yesterday, report agencies.
In Cox’s Bazar: Four people, including two sisters, were killed and seven others injured as a microbus hit a roadside tree at Harbang Goalmara on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chakaria upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as microbus driver Amir Hossain, 35, a resident of Basabo in Dhaka, Ayesha Akter Shilpi, 20, a resident of Manda upazila in Bogra, and her sister Kulsuma Akter, 25, a resident of Louhojong upazila in Munshiganj and Golam Kibria, 40.
The accident took place around 8.30am while they were going to Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka, leaving two people dead on the spot and nine others injured, said Mohammad Farhad, assistant superintendent of police of Chittagong Zone Highway.
The injured were taken to Chakaria upazila health complex where doctors declared two of them dead.
Our Tangail correspondent says: A mother and her son were killed and four others injured when a CNG run autorickshaw collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka- Bangabandhu Bridge highway yesterday noon.
The deceased was identified as Sathi Akhter, 35, wife of Rajib Ahmed of Korotia village and her 10-month-old son Sathuyan. They are the residents of Tangail Sadar upazila.
Rafiqul Islam, inspector of Tangail traffic police, said the accident took place at Ashekpur highway yesterday at 12 am, leaving Sathi and her son dead on the spot. The injured people were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
Police arrested the driver and seized the truck.
In Jhenidah: A college teacher was killed and another injured as their motorbike hit a roadside tree in front of Veterinary College on the Jhenaidah-Chuadanga road in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ehtesamul Haque, 52, associate professor of Economics Department of Chuadanga Government College.
Police said the accident occurred when their motorbike hit the roadside tree in the area as the bike rider Ehtesamul lost control over the vehicle. Critically injured both of them were sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where Ehtesamul succumbed to his injuries.
In Dinajpur: A school teacher was killed and another injured as a bus hit their motorcycle on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway in Noshipur area of Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, an assistant teacher of Nashipur School and College. Police said the speeding bus hit the motorcycle around 8:30am while Rafiqul along with another teacher Majibur Rahman was going to school, leaving Rafiqul dead on the spot and Majibur injured.
The injured was taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
After the accident, teachers and students of the school took to the streets and blocked the highway for two hours demanding speed breaker in front of school.
